The BNP yesterday said that Awami League has started its journey towards authoritarianism by abandoning all norms and morality of the democracy. “The country has been
thrown into darkness again in a planned manner. The pro-democratic and independent minded people of the country would never recognize and accept it as a legitimate
government,” BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, said in a statemen issued shortly after the new cabinet was sworn in.
Fakhrul described the oath-taking of the new cabinet a black day for Bangladesh, and said an “inauspicious journey” of democracy started through taking oath of the
“immoral and illegal” government.
He said it has buried the democracy along with its spirits. “An autocratic government has been imposed upon the people of the country through a voter less and lopsided
polls.”
Fakhrul claimed that 95 per cent people do not support this government. He urged the government to resign immediately paving the way for holding an inclusive election.
Meanwhile, BNP chairperson and 18-party leader Khaleda Zia did not turn up at the oath taking ceremony of the new cabinet.
