Supporters of a winner ward councilor candidate in the Sylhet City Corporation polls allegedly hacked an opponent’s ally in the city Monday night.
The victim was identified as Abdul Haque, 30, a resident of Shaheed Shamsuddin Chhatrabas Colony at Dargah Mahalla in the city.Local sources said a group of six youths, in two motorcycles, launched attack on Abdul Haque in front of his residence at around 8:00pm and hacked him with sharp weapons for not supporting Razik Miah, the councilor-elect for the SCC ward 2.
Rasel Ibne Mamun, another ward councilor candidate in the elections held on Saturday, claimed Razik Miah’s men attacked Abdul Haque for supporting him.
Razik Miah, who was a Jamaat-backed ward councilor candidate, denied the allegation.
‘Abdul Haque was injured by the supporters of Rasel,’ Razik alleged.
When contacted, Kotwali police officer-in-charge Ataur Rahman said they had detained two people in this incident.
