Textbooks to have road safety issues
The government will incorporate a chapter on road safety and road use in primary and secondary textbooks next year to raise awareness about it.
The primary and mass education ministry formed a panel to prepare contents on road safety and road use for textbooks after 40 people, mostly students, were killed in a road accident in Mirsarai, Chittagong on July 11.
The committee headed by Brac Director Ahmed Nazmul Hossain recently submitted to the government the contents for class I to X.
The other panel members are Dr Shamsul Hoque, former director of Accident Research Institute of Buet and Ilias Kanchan, film actor and initiator of Nirapad Sarak Chai campaign.
The government has already sent the contents to publishers for including in textbooks to be distributed among students in January next year.
Shamsul Hoque said the incorporation of the contents in textbooks will help students have a better understanding of road safety and how to use roads.
