On the night of January 15, Khandaker Shakhawat Alim Nobel, husband of the slain film actor Raima Islam Shimu, decided to kill his wife over a family feud and called his friend SMY Abdullah Farhad at their flat on Green Road.
Later, Farhad also helped Nobel destroy the evidence, said Md Shahidul Islam, inspector of Keraniganj Model Police Station and also the investigation officer (IO) of the murder case in the charge sheet submitted to Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court.
The IO described the incidents of the night by quoting Nobel and Farhad’s confessional statements. The charge sheet will be placed before the court on September 18.
In their attempt to kill Shimu, Nobel told Farhad to grab his wife so that they could kill her. As per Nobel’s direction, Farhad attempted to capture Shimu. But she pushed him, after which he fell to the floor. Nobel tried to catch her by the throat in his attempt to kill her but failed.
At that point, both of them made a move to attack her. After some resistance from Shimu, Farhad caught her by her hands, while Nobel strangled her with his feet.
Shimu and Nobel’s 15-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son were sleeping in the next room during the murder.
On the morning of January 16, Nobel and Farhad sewed two sacks after putting Shimu’s body in them. They then drove around Mirpur, Rupnagar and Ashulia areas with the sack in the trunk of Nobel’s car, looking for a place to dump the body.
They returned home with the body in the evening and dumped it in a bush near Alipur Bridge in Keraniganj around midnight. Nobel then went to Kalabagan Police Station to report that his wife had been missing.
Shimu’s body was recovered from a sack found in a roadside bush near Hazratpur Bridge ion January 17. Following the recovery, Shimu’s brother Harun-or-Rashid filed a case with Keraniganj Model Police Station against Nobel, Farhad and several unknown persons. Police then arrested Nobel and Farhad from their residences on January 18.
Shimu made a debut on the silver screen in 1998 with “Bartaman” and starred in 20 films throughout her career.
