A rooftop solar power plant with automatic cleaning system and a capacity of 3.5mw per day has been installed at Universal Jeans Ltd, a concern of Pacific Jeans, at the Chattogram EPZ, at a cost of $0.5 million as part of its green energy initiative.
This 3.5mw electricity will meet 10% of the total power demand in the factory.
Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, executive chairman of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), inaugurated the plant as chief guest though a ceremony recentlt.
The solar plant having a total of 1,299 pieces of photovoltaic modules of solar panels was set up on more than 49,000 square feet.
Earlier Pacific Jeans installed a 70KW solar plant on the roof of NHT Fashions Ltd, another concern of the Group, in April this year.
The Group is also constructing its largest solar plant, with a daily capacity of 5.5mw, on the roof of its unit Pacific Jeans Ltd. This plant is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
Pacific Jeans will install solar power plants at Jeans 2000 Ltd and NHT Fashions Ltd in 2023, at Pacific Knitex Ltd and Pacific Workwears Ltd in 2024, and at Pacific Casuals Ltd (Unit 1&2), Pacific Attires Ltd, Pacific Jeans Ltd (Unit-2) and Universal Jeans Ltd (Unit 4) in 2025.
An estimated 32.70mw of electricity, or 20% of Pacific Jeans’ total power needs, will be produced by the solar power plants housed in 10 factories spread across a 4.41 lakh square foot area. This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 6,458 tonnes.
