‘Pagol’, the third studio album of folk-fusion band Lalon, presents an array of mystical songs that present a completely new concept of fusion music. There are a total of 8 tracks in the album, of which 5 songs are written by Fakir Lalon Shai, two by Shah Abdul Karim and one is collected. The songs have been re-arranged musically, keeping their original tunes untouched, by the band.
All the songs of the album touch the hearts of listeners the same way all the albums of Lalon have always been sources of revelation for its fans, with songs that convey spiritual messages.
The album begins with the song ‘Dhor o chor’. The nurtured voice of Nigar Sumi, lead vocalist of the band, makes the song a pleasing one, synchronized to soft guitar riffs and controlled drum beats.
‘Pagol’, the title track of the album, begins with a rap by Faisal Ifftekhar Raza, but Sumi steals the limelight by her experienced control of her voice in the song. The collected song reveals the enormity of our folk music. Baul Sufi Mondol’s voice and ‘dotara’ recital complement the song ‘Helay helay’. Sourav Chakma’s bass harmony as a guest artist makes the song more tempting. He also played in song the ‘Manob shomaj’. ‘Ami gaan gaite pari na’, the fifth track of the album is a treat for listeners too. Salekin’s magic on guitar and Titi’s funky beats on drums, associated with Turjo’s blissful bass, complete the composition of the song. Abu Nilu Mostafa’s uses a flamenco guitar in ‘Boshonto batashey’ to leave an impression of reggae at the beginning of the song. Sumi once again proved her vocal skills in this song. ‘Anonder Bazar’ pumps up the feel with its powerful and groovy music. ‘Allah bolo’ is the last track of the album.
Titi arranged most of the songs in the album except track 6 and 7 which were by Masum, while Taposh Dey mixed and mastered the album.
Lalon released its debut album ‘Biprotip’ in 2001 and ‘Khepa’, the second one, in 2009. The current lineup of the band comprises of Nigar Sultana Sumi on vocal, Ashfaque Ahmed Turjo on bass, Sheikh Iftekhar Hasan and Chowdhury Shaik Salekin on guitars and Titi on drums.
