Pakistan dominated the first day of their two-match Test series against a dejected Bangladesh side after the hosts were bowled out for only 135 runs at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Unbeaten half-centuries from openers Mohammad Hafeez and Taufeeq Umar added insult to injury as Pakistan posted 132 runs without loss at stumps on Friday.
In marked contrast to the poor form of Bangladesh’s top order, the Pakistani batsmen exuded confidence at the crease as they registered Pakistan’s highest opening partnership of 2011.
Mohammad Hafeez and Taufeeq Umar, who are on 74 and 53 respectively, will resume batting at 9:30am Saturday.
BANGLADESH 1ST INNINGS
Spectators at the stadium were left stunned by some audacious shot selection in an innings which felt more like a one-dayer than a five-day Test.
With the exception of three batsmen, the top and middle order failed to reach double figures as Bangladesh’s innings fell apart.
Nasir Hossain top-scored for the home side with a useful knock of 41 and debutant opener Nazimuddin scored 31.
Off-breaker Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman picked up three wickets each while pacers Umar Gul and Aizaz Cheema took two each to sink the hosts for an embarrassingly low total.
Earlier in the morning, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to field.
