Theatre troupe Palakar celebrated its 11th founding anniversary on Sunday evening through much enthusiasm while staging of playwright Sayeed Ahmed’s Kalbela, directed by Aminur Rahman Mukul.
Similar to other plays by Ahmed, Kalbela is also belongs to theatre of absurd genre, which depicts the inherent meaninglessness of life. The characters of the play are common people in living their lives in a veryusual fashion.
It depicts an ethnic minority group living comfortably in a char. Their lives, at first, do not attract any special notice. But as a piece of news of an upcoming cyclone reaches them, they find the futility and emptiness of life before the approaching death.
At the last moment, they understand that everyone’s life is similarly meaningless, be he/she a leader or a sufferer. On the face of death they try to do give meaning to their lives, but their attempt comes to no reward.
Thespian Ataur Rahman graced the occasion of Palakar’s birthday as the chief guest at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. With mirth and merriment, the members of the theatre troupe celebrated its anniversary through a cake cutting ceremony before staging the play.
