Strange it may sound, but it is true. Home delivery service of Phensidyl has become a new technique of drug peddlers in the capital to run their illicit dodging the eyes of the law enforcers.
Some 250-300 drug peddlers have introduced home delivery service of intoxicating Indian Phensidyl on phone call basis, according to Intelligence sources. They said the drug paddlers changed their business tactics to avoid raids by different law enforcing agencies, including members of elite force Rab and Department of Narcotics control (DNC), on their dens.
Under the new technique, one drug peddler has set up a network of 40-50 customers, including political party cadres, some private bank officers and gangsters.
An intelligence official said at least 10,000 bottles of Phensidyl are sold using the home delivery system in the capital daily on average everyday as each drug peddler can sell 40-50 bottles of Phensidyl to his listed customers.
The official, requesting anonymity, said a section of private bank officials of Motijheel and Dilkhusha commercial areas are also there on the client lists of several drug peddlers. “They usually place orders over phone for delivery to their designated places everyday, but pay the drug peddlers on weekly basis,” he said.
A section of housewives and spoiled young girls are also among the Phensidyl addicts. They usually collect Phensidyl through home delivery service, the intelligence official said.
Major consignments of Phensidyl are smuggled into the country through nine points along India-Bangladesh border. The entry points are Benapole of Jessore, Hilly of Dinajpur, Godagari of Rajshahi, Akkelpur of Joypurhat, Ishwardi of Pabna, Akhaura of Brahmanbaria, Brahmanpara, Bibir Bazar and Miah Bazar of Comilla.
Another intelligence official, wishing not to be named, said each bottle of Phensidyl is sold at Tk 330-Tk 380 after the illegal drug smuggled into Bangladesh territory from India, when the consignment reach Dhaka city, each bottle of Phensidyl is sold at Tk 480-520 and then the mobile drug peddlers buy each bottle of Phensidyl at Tk 600. Later, one bottle of Phensidyl is sold at Tk700-Tk 800.
He alleged that the contraband drug is being smuggled into the country with the help of a section of corrupt law enforcers.
Contacted, Deputy Director (Dhaka Intelligence) Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) Md Mujibur Rahman Patwari said Phensidyl users, in fact, have now become addicted to Yaba tablet due to its availability as well as cheaper price compared to that of Phensidyl.
He said smuggling of Phensidyl has come down due to frequent raids by different law enforcement agencies, knocking up its price, he added.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) recovered some 3,542 bottles of Phensidyl from a covered van at Mirpur embankment in the capital in the early hours of June 1. The elite force also arrested the owner of the covered van and its driver from Gabtoli area on June 3.
