The prize giving ceremony of Bangladesh Hockey Federation was held at the Falcon Hall at Tejgaon on Thursday with the absence of players making it a drab show, commented some guests.
The BHF organised the programme to hand over the trophies of last three seasons of Premier Division Hockey leagues but they did not invite the players of the prize winning clubs and even any national team players to attend the event.
‘I did not want to come here where my fellows are not invited. I had to come
only at the request of my club officials,’ said Premier Division 2012 runners-up Abahani Limited captain Asaduzzaman Chandan.
However, the federation handed over the prizes to the 2008 premier division league champions and runners-up teams Usha Krira Chakra and Abahani Limited, 2010 edition’s joint champions Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited and 2012 champions and runners-up Mohammedan Sporting Club and Usha Krira Chakra.
Mohammedan and Usha also received Tk 1 lakh and Tk 50,000 respectively as the champions and runners-up of this season.
Ajax Sporting Club won the fair play trophy for their for the 2012 premier league while Mamunur Rahman Chayan of Mohammedan won the best player award.
Chayan was rewarded with Tk 25,000 for his performance and this season’s highest scorer Mainul Islam Kawshik of Usha won a Walton motorcycle.
The state minister for youth and sports, Ahad Ali Sarkar, handed over the prizes to the winners, while sponsor organisation Walton’s first senior deputy director (sports and creativity) was also present, among others.
