Passers-by and commuters are suffering endlessly as roads, footpaths and frontal space of other establishments have been occupied by hawkers and mini shoppers in the port city.
Piling of construction materials by a number of land owners and even govt and semi-govt organisations on the roads for days adds another dimension to their untold sufferings.
Traffic congestion which has already posed a serious threat to the normal life of the mega cities and the authorities concerned are in fatigue to deal with the problem, this irresponsible trend can never be allowed to continue for the greater interest of the city dwellers.
A section of unscrupulous traders is biased to use posh city points as their business place piling huge quantity of construction materials. They do not hesitate to carry such items with giant trucks any time. The common passers-by and commuters on board are almost helpless to their adamant move. A long queue of vehicles is seen while transporting these items with heavy risks.
The city’s most posh areas like parade corner, Dewan Bazar are being used by these so-called traders ignoring the plight of the commoners.
The law enforcers generally do not take any action against them as a section of them remains mum owing to an agreement between them which was alleged by the sufferers.
The hawkers and the shoppers, few weeks ago, went into a tussle in and around New Market and Reazuddin Bazar on the status of their business. The clash was so violent that the administration was compelled to impose Section 144 to bring the situation under control.
But no breakthrough yet! Co-existence seen as only the solution. Hawkers re-occupied the footpaths and are running their business and the plight of the commoners remains as usual.
Steps to rehabilitate these traders in a particular place or places and against illegal occupiers and users, observers think, should be taken to contain the sufferings of the people from heavy traffic jam and other problems.
