The Dhaka Premier League enters into the last round today with plenty of permutations and combinations as at least six teams are in contention for the last three slots of the Super League.
Prime Doleshwar confirmed their Super League berth with 14 points while Victoria Sporting Club and Legends of Rupganj also secured that with 13 points each.Mohammedan Sporting Club, Abahani Limited, Gazi Group, Prime Bank Cricket Club, Kalabagan Krira Chakra and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will fight for the remaining three spots.
Title aspirants Abahani, who currently have 12 points, will fancy their chances as they will take on one of the bottom teams, Cricket Coaching School at BKSP today and a win will confirm their Super League qualification.
But the Dhanmondi-based club should not expect anything for granted as CCS, who have won just two matches so far, will be desperate to win in order to avoid the relegation.
Abahani and national team pace bowler Taskin Ahmed was cautious about the match.
‘We cannot afford to take our opponents lightly,’ said Taskin on Sunday adding that ‘every team is strong in the league and we must produce our 100 per cent to win the match and qualify for the Super League.
‘We are confident as we won our last four [three] matches and inclusion of Sakib [al Hasan] bhai has made the team more balanced. ‘
Things will be lot more complicated for holders Prime Bank, who have 10 points now, not only must win league over league leaders Doleshwar at Fatullah but also require the results of other matches to go in their favour.
Doleshwar have their own stake as a win will not only confirm their top position in the first round but will provide them a good cushion in the championship race.
‘It is a straight league so every game is vital for us,’ Doleshwar’s national team pacer Al-Amin Hossain told to reporters on Sunday.
‘If we can win tomorrow [today] things will become little easier for us. We will give our hundred per cent,’ said the pacer.
Sher-e-Bangla national stadium will be the venue for the other match of the day between Kalabagan Krira Chakra and Kalabagan Cricket Academy. The academy side has only four points and will be eager to win but Kalabagan, who have 10 points, will also want to prolong their three-match winning streak, which will give them an outside chance to qualify for the Super League.
