PM opens Tongi flyover tomorrow

May 20: Finally Ahsanullah Master flyover at Tongi of Gazipur  is ready for inauguration. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to formally open the flyover on Sunday. After the inauguration ceremony the fly over will be opened for all. The authority expected that communication will be easier without using the Dhaka Kanchpur bridge  
Construction work of the flyover at Tongi railway crossing on the Tongi-Kaliganj-Ghorasal- Panchdona highway began on March 16 of 2006 with an expenditure  of taka 18 crore 11 lakh 32 thousand 359 taka. The main length of the flyover was 42.68 meter and joining road will be 450 meter.  The Tongi flyover project was taken to ease the traffic movement on both sides of the Tongi junction enabling the vehicles coming to and from northern and north-western districts to cross the station uninterrupted. The work was scheduled to end on 15 Match in 2008.
The construction firm Mir Akhter and JV flyover started the construction work.
But local people started protest meeting as there was no way in the design to communicate by under the flyover.
At this the construction work suspended for about 7/8 months later with the construction work resumed from the month of June in 2007 with correct design.
In the new design, the revised length was 350 meter and the length of link road was 200 meter.
The revised total expenses was 20 crore 80 lakh 66 thousand taka.
And the date was fixed up to 31st March of the current year. Again, some additional works like electric light beside the flyover, building of drainage system and footpath under the flyover and beautifications of the flyover  were added on the project on last December (2009).
As a result the total expenses increased to 23 crore 78 lakh taka.
