Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has appealed to the world leaders and the development partners to redouble effort to place education at the heart of global development mission.
“Our efforts would certainly realise an educated, and therefore, a safe and secure world for our future generation,” she said this at a function on global education first initiative ‘ held at the un headquarters on September 25. Prime Minister said, I believe political leadership and diversion of funds from armaments for a world of educated citizens is the solution to real peace.
Hasina thanked to the UN secretary general for taking education first initiative.
In her speech, the Prime Minister said that the education is a lead ‘agent of change’ in their vision and development agenda to turn Bangladesh as a middle income country by 2021.
“Our education policy 2010 ensures education to all by 2014.”
The 2011 national women’s development policy lays strong focus on education of girls,” the PM said.
At the function, Yusuf Jai Malala, also spoke. She asked the world leaders and the United Nation to send teachers, books and pen instead of tanks, ammunition and soldiers to Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan and the countries, where the children are deprived of education and rights.
Malala said, “We all know that important issue must focus on Syria, where many people are homeless and the children are out of school.
In Afghanistan, children are deprived of education and they are also target of terrorism.
In India, the children are suffering from child labour, trafficking and poverty.
Mentioning that the rapid pace of scientific and technological advancement is bringing dramatic socio-economic progress within states, she said that they are also drawing states closer and making world small, with its accompanying challenges.
