The 65th death anniversary of Bengali eminent poet Sukanta Bhattacharya was observed in a befitting manner at his birthplace at village
Unashia under Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj district.
Numerous candles have been lit at the poet’s paternal home. Beside a village fair, a cultural program and discussion session on Sukanta was also organised by Gopalganj district administration. This is first time the administration has taken this kind of initiative at the poet’s birthplace.
The deputy commissioner Md Khalilur Rahman inaugurated the program on Monday evening. Singers of Udichi Sukanta Sangeet Academy and Shilpakala Academy, Kotalipara rendered songs at the program. Later, a discussion on the poet was held at his home yard.
Poets, authors and admirers of Sukanta came from different parts of the country to attend the program. The Unashia become a ground for reunion of the celebrated poet’s ardent fans.
Sukanta Bhattacharya had passed away on May 13 in 1947.
