A TV reporter who was robbed while reporting live on the World Cup 2022 in Qatar says that the police’s response to her report of the crime has left her speechless. Officials asked Dominique Metzger what kind of punishment she thought the person who stole from her purse should get.
The incident happened as the Argentine reporter was writing about the lead-up to the first game between Ecaudaor and Qatar. The first game of the World Cup took place on Sunday night. Enner Valencia scored twice to lead Ecuador to a 2-0 victory.
Before the match, things from Dominique’s handbag were stolen during the live broadcast from the Corniche area of Doha. She told the police about what happened, and she was shocked by their strange response, according to the Mirror.
Dominque said: “I went to the station and that was when the cultural differences began. The policewoman said to me: ‘We have high-tech cameras everywhere and we are going to locate him [the thief] with face detection.
“What would you like the legal system to do when we find him?”
The Argentinian was left baffled by the statement from the officers and asked her for further clarification. Metzger added: ” [The policewoman said:] What justice do you want?
“What sentence do you want us to give him? Do you want him to be sentenced to five years in prison?
