Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed said, on Sunday, that the entire country is waiting for a peaceful end to the current political impasse over election-time government, and the election commission also shares the same sentiment. “We are hopeful that we’d see the end of this political impasse, and that’s why we haven’t finalised the code of conduct. However, we’ll finalise that soon,” he said.
Kazi Rakibuddin also said the EC is yet to get a copy of the High Court’s verdict on Jamaat-e-Islami, so far, and it will take its decision as per law, once it gets the copy. He said this in the media briefing at his office on Sunday.
Three months’ back, the High Court (HC) had declared that the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami, as a political party, was illegal, and, on Sunday, HC released the copy of the verdict.
The CEC also said that the election commission is set to create a level playing field for all political parties, by framing a proper ‘election code of conduct’. He, however, said that the commission is yet to take any decision on holding a second round of dialogue with political parties, in this regard.
