DSEX falls for 4th day amid low turnover
Dhaka stocks decreased for the fourth trading session on Sunday with a decreased turnover as the current political violence made the investors panicky.
The benchmark general index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, dropped to 4,147.20 points, shedding 1.97 per cent or 83.51 points. DS30, the blue-chip index of the DSE, shed 2.19 per cent, or 32.95 points, to finish at 1,470.82 points.
The DSEX and the DS30 lost 198.68 points and 64.44 respectively in the last four trading sessions.
Market operators said that the turnout of investors was very thin on Sunday, the second day of the 72-hour fresh blockade called by the opposition alliance.
They said investor refrained from trading amid the political unrest, anticipating further fall in share prices in the coming days.
The turnover of the DSE declined to Tk 348.68 crore from that of Tk 366.51 crore in the previous trading session.
Of the 282 shares and mutual funds traded on the day, 57 advanced, 207 declined and 18 remained unchanged.
‘Following strengthened perception of bleak investment outlook, massive waves of correction as week started, prolonged the decline, with DSEX shedding 83.52 points,’ IDLC Investments said in its daily market commentary.
It said, ‘Selling frenzy was observed across almost all sectors and all cap classes, throughout the session, pressuring indices down.’
Delta Life Insurance led the turnover leaders with its shares worth Tk 33.36 crore changing hands.
RN Spinning, Meghna Petroleum, Paramount Textile, Envoy Textile Mills, Generation Next Fashions, Jamuna Oil, Central Pharmaceuticals, Bangladesh Building Systems and Bengal Windsor Thermoplastics were also on the top 10 turnover leaders’ list.
The share price of Rahima Food continued to rise despite a DSE declaration that the production of the company was found fully closed and the company has losses worth Tk 11.34 crore.
Rahima Food gained the most on Sunday with a 9.95-per cent increase in its share price while Meghna Petroleum lost the most, shedding 20.65 per cent.
