Bangabir Kader Siddiqui BU, president of the Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Janata League (BKSJL), has described the all-party election-time government as “illegal” because there is no provision for it in the Constitution. “Ministers have no right to fly the national flag on their cars after submitting their resignations. It is a criminal offence. They will be brought to justice,” he told The Independent in an exclusive interview on Sunday night.
Demanding resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Siddiqui, who left on Monday morning for Delhi to seek the blessings of Khawja Baba in Ajmer, said: “The Prime Minister has to consider that not a single person should come to harm because of her. So, I believe that she will resign to pave the way for a fair and credible election.”
It is impossible to hold a fair, impartial and credible election under the present government, he said. “We will take part in the election when we get the assurance that it will be held in a fair manner. We want a credible poll not an arranged one. The so-called all-party government has created a complexity. The election will never find acceptance under this government,” Siddiqui added.
Asked about rumours that he was going to join the present government as an adviser to the Prime Minister, he replied: “I will give the answer at the proper time.”
Regarding his efforts to form an alliance, he said they have a long term plan to form an alliance with Dr Kamal Hossain, professor Badruddouza Chowdhury and ASM Rob.
“We have no plan to form an alliance with HM Ershad. We set a condition for Ershad and that is he should quit the Awami League-led Grand Alliance before joining our alliance. Ershad has joined the so-called all-party government, which makes it impossible to form an alliance with him now,” he added.
