Prominent singers of the country satisfied the thirst of the audience presenting the recently demised legendary singer Manna Dey’s popular songs on Wednesday at the National Art Gallery auditorium of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The emerging singers also covered Dey’s evergreen songs well at the commemorative programme organised by Bangladesh Shilapakala Academy.
The programme began with young singer Moutusi’s presentation of two songs including Amar bolar kichhu chhilona and Thikana na rekhe bhaloi korechho. Both of the songs had been composed Dey, however, recorded by another popular Indian singer Hoimanti Shukla.
Subsequently, eminent singers like Rafiqul Alam, Sujit Mostafa, Timir Nandi and Sumon Chowdhury moved the houseful audience presenting one after another Manna Dey’s popular songs.
Seasoned singer Rafiqul Alam could satisfy the thirst of the audience presenting very popular songs including Sundori gow dohai tomar and Jibon-e ki pabona.
Eminent Nazrul Sangeet singer Sujit Mostafa shared the experience of his first meeting with Manna Dey. Subsequently, he covered the legend’s songs Amay aksh bollo and Ki dekhle tumi amate.
Timir Nandi’s presentation of popular song Pousher kachakachi was highly appreciated by the audience. Nandi began the song with the very romantic mid-stave lines Khushi ar lojjar majha majha kono hasi/ tumi ar hasbe ki kokhono.
Nazrul singer Sumon Chowdhury’s presentation of the sentimental number Tumi anek jotno kor-e also got plaudit.
The audience also enjoyed presentation of the young singers like Zahid Mamun Khan, Mafijur Rahman, Tanzina Ruma and Swaran who respectively rendered Manna Dey’s Sajani gow jadi ele, Dwip chhilo shikha chhilo, Katodin dekhini tomay and O chand samle rakho. Director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky delivered the welcome speech at the programme.
Eminent singer Subir Nandi was the anchor of the programme who also narrated the biography of the legendary singer.
In response to the request of the audience, Nandi rendered first stanza of the epoch making Manna Dey’s song Coffee house-r sei addata.
The jam-packet audience left the auditorium with full satisfaction. ‘I am a fan of Manna Dey. It is a great pleasure to listen to Manna Dey’s songs rendered by the noted singers of the country,’ said Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas, secretary of the cultural affairs ministry, who enjoyed the programme as the chief guest.
