The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has said the names of several influential people, including bank officials, had come up during the interrogation of actor Pori Mori and others who were recently arrested in narcotics cases.
CID Dhaka Metro unit Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sheikh Omar Faruq revealed the development on Sunday. He declined to disclose names of the influential people for the purposes of investigation.
The names of the influential people came up during interrogation of the accused, the additional DIG said at the press briefing on Sunday.
“All the names are from the recently arrested. We do not want any innocent people to face allegations, so we are looking for evidence before revealing any of the names,” Faruq said.
In response to a query, he said: “We are yet to get any complaints from anyone who fell victim to blackmail by the arrestees. We are getting information on their involvement.”
Faruq said they seized some devices from Pori Moni’s residence on Saturday and that they would be examined at the IT forensic lab of CID.
CID took charge of separate narcotics cases against Pori Moni and producer Nazrul Islam Raz on Friday. The day before, they took charge of two cases against Helena Jahangir, and one each against models Marium Akter Mou, Faria Mahabub Piasha, and Piasha’s associate Mishu Hasan.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed a case against Pori Moni under the Narcotics Control Act with Banani police station on Thursday. On that day, Pori and Raz were placed on four-day remand.
Faruq said CID would seek further remand of all the accused, if necessary.
A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Helena Jahangir, who recently lost her Awami League post over the Chakrijibi League scandal, on remand for a total of 14 days in four cases filed with two police stations.
She was placed on four-day remand in a fraud case, and three-day remand in a narcotics case.
Other Dhaka courts placed Piasha and Mou on seven-day fresh remand on Friday, after they had completed their earlier three-day remand in narcotics cases.
Shariful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan, said to be Piasha’s chief coordinator, was remanded for three days on Thursday in a narcotics case. He has been placed on remand for a total of nine days.
