The three-day poush mela concluded with music, dance and fair at the Ramna Batamul in the capital on Sunday.
The city dwellers had nostalgic experiences at the ending day programme which lined up a number of folk songs, dance recitals and recitations featuring the spirit of the poush, the first of the two month’s of winter season. The pithas sold in makeshift stalls also attracted the visitors who enjoyed a pastoral milieu at the fair.
The fair, organsied by Poush Mela Udzapan Parisad, attracted hundreds of visitors in the last day who came to enjoy the pithas and the cultural shows; like they did in the previous two days of the festival.
The chorus presentations of folk songs made the concluding day programme different from the other two days. Artistes of Bashoria presented the Bhawaiya song Chole Re Mor Gorur Gari presenting a picture of riding a cow-cart along the muddy path of a village. The chorus’ next presentation Nangar Chhariya Nao created a joyous atmosphere at the fair.
The presentation of the song Mon Mor Pitha Khaibar Chay by the Bhawaiya Gaaner Dal created a yearning for delicious pithas among the crowd present at the fair. Singers of Drishti, on the other hand, depicted the spirit of the month through their performances of Poush Abar Niye Elo and Esho Gaai Desher Gaan.
Fakir Shahabuddin made the audience dance to his soulful presentation of folk song Rakho Khobor in his powerful voice in solo rendition. Shahina Akter Papiya, on the contrary, entertained the listeners with her presentation of Sachin Dev Burman’s evergreen song Banshi Shune Ar Kaj Nai. Shishir Sardar paid tribute to recently demised legendary singer Manna Dey through presenting Coffee House. Sardar also presented Oke Ajj Choley Jete Bolna at the show. Lili Haq presented a romantic song Amar E Gaan Tumi Shunbey while Ashikur Rahman rendered patriotic song Lakho Lakho Haat in solo performances.
Dancers of Nataraj shattered the silence of the evening with the sounds of their ghungroos while presenting a dance recital synchronised with popular a folk number Poush Elo Go.
