Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday announced a 23-member preliminary squad for the three-match home series against India starting from next month.
India will arrive on June 13 to play three one-day internationals against the Tigers scheduled to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on June 15, 17 and 19.
There was no place for left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who is currently touring West Indies with the Bangladesh A team, despite his superb performances in the recently concluded Bangladesh Cricket League. He grabbed 37 wickets in four BCL games. So many thought he had a real chance of getting into the Tigers squad. But the selectors had other ideas.
‘We could not take Taijul into consideration as our team is already packed with three left-arm spinners,’ said BCB chief selector Faruk Ahmed.
The selected players will start their preparation camp for the series on May 26 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
It was learnt that Sarwar Imran will look after the squad initially before new head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe takes over on June 10.
