The president, Abdul Hamid, urged all concerned on Thursday to introduce scout movement to all primary and secondary level public and private educational institutions for making the youth self independent and well educated. ‘It is needed to form a scout team at every educational institution for building our gradually increasing youth community as worthy citizen,’ he said while inaugurating 42nd Annual Meeting of National Council of Bangladesh Scouts at Osmani Memorial Hall in the capital.
The president, who is also the chief scout of the country, said the youth community would have to be brought up in a proper way to reach fruits of the country’s independence, achieved at the cost of lives of 30 lakh martyrs, to the people of all strata.
‘Scouts would be an ideal platform to realize it. I urge all concerned to bring youth society under the scout movement,’ he said adding, ‘I am happy to know that the number of scouts is increasing here but it is not satisfactory compared to the population of the country.’
Noting that the government extended all its cooperation to strengthen the Bangladesh scouts movement, the president said the support would continue in the days to come.
He said the government is trying to introduce scouts movement at all public and private educational institutes through cubing extension project under primary and mass education ministry and human resource development through scouting under education ministry.
The president asked the authorities concerned to involve youths in ongoing global dynamic trend of information technology for building a digital Bangladesh.
He also lauded the activities of scouts in various fields like disaster management especially their efficient involvement in rescue operation and dead body management of Rana Plaza victims.
Besides, he appreciated the scouts for their rural level work on plantation, sanitation, health service and immunization through creating mass awareness.
The president expressed his satisfaction that disaster related training programmes have been extended for scout members saying, ‘I urge all to involve scouts more in plantation programme to maintain environmental balance.’
During the ceremony, 10 scouts were awarded ‘silver tiger’ while seven other ‘silver hilsha’ for their outstanding contribution in the movement.
