The president, M Abdul Hamid, and the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday called for creating awareness about breastfeeding for good health and development of children.
They made the call in separate messages on the eve of World Breastfeeding Week-2013 from August 1 to 7.
In his statement, the president said all essential elements for physical and mental growth of babies are available in breastfeeding.
‘Breastfeeding is the only ideal food for babies,’ he said and stressed the need for further strengthening the programs for promoting breastfeeding.
The president expressed happiness for observing the breastfeeding week in the country like elsewhere in the globe and wished its success.
In her message, prime minister Sheikh Hasina, urged the families and societies to come forward along with the government to promote breastfeeding and help in development of children.
She said breast milk contains essential nutrients for the infant and it increases their resistance power.
The present government has taken extensive programmes for development of maternal and child health.
