A college principal was arrested yesterday on charge of sexually abusing three women, including two sisters, and blackmailing them in Rajshahi.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-5) caught Mehedi Hasan, 30, principal of Adarsha Women’s Technical College in Bagmara upazila, from the city’s bus terminal area in the morning and recovered a CD containing video footages of abusing the three from his possession.
Following Mehedi’s confession, Rab members seized a computer, a laptop, a high-resolution web camera and other CDs from his rented house at Upashahar in the city around 3:00pm.
Rab-5 Director Lt Col M Reazur Rahman told newsmen at a press conference that Mehedi, father of a son and a daughter, was arrested following a complaint from the family of two abused sisters in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
Mehedi, also a director of Bagmara Polytechnic Institute, during the press conference confessed that he developed extra-marital relationship with the elder one of the two in 2008 by promising her a job in his college.
When the incident of illicit relationship was revealed, the family had to send her abroad to save her from Mehedi’s clutch.
The accused also later duped the younger sister with the promise of a job in his college, the Rab director said.
He took video footages of raping the younger sister, who was married, several times at a rented room of Rony dormitory in the city.
Mehedi, however, did not give her the promised job and tried to blackmail her by threatening to spread video footages of her rape. As the incident surfaced, the younger sister’s husband left her for her relationship with Mehedi.
Recently, when Mehedi threatened the sisters of uploading the video footages on internet and publishing video footages in CDs in the market to destroy their lives, the family submitted a complaint with the Rab.
Asked by journalists about his reaction, Mehedi said “He had committed wrong”.
Of the three women in the video-footages, one was a call girl, he said.
Mehedi, having two master’s degrees in Bangla and Social Science, had long been luring women by offering jobs at his educational institutions into getting involved with him, the Rab director alleged.
“The brutality of Mehedi has surpassed the cruelty of Porimal Joydhor of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka,” he said.
Mehedi was later handed over to the police with charges under the women and children repression prevention act.
