Police recovered the body of a private university registrar from
his rented house in Sylhet city Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Abdullah, 61,
registrar of North South University at Taltola in the city.He is from Chapainababganj and had been living alone on the first floor at a house at Sheikhghat area in the city, university authorities said.
North South University public relations officer Abdul Hai told New Age that repeated calls over the cell phone of Mohammad Abdullah were made in the morning as he did not come to the campus, which was open on Friday because of frequent general strikes in the week.
Getting no response from Abdullah, three officials of the university went to his residence at around 10:00am and pressed the door bell but got no response.
‘Later, the university officials with help of the house owner tried to look into the bedroom and saw the body hanging from the ceiling fan,’ Abdul Hai added.
On informed, a Kotwali police team recovered the dead body from the room, local sources said.
‘The death of Mohammad Abdullah is a mystery. Whether it is an incident of suicide or murder would be ascertained after receiving the autopsy report,’ said Kotwali police subinspector Mobashwir Ali.
