National Professor Salauddin Ahmed was honoured with this year’s of Rabindra Padak at the 32nd Annual National Rabindra Sangeet Conventions which ended at the Chhayanaut auditorium on Saturday. The convention was orgsnised by Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad
‘I am happy that I have been conferred with this honour,’ said Ahmed to New Age while sharing his feelings after getting the award.
‘However, I am an introvert person, so generally I sort of avoid public meetings and programmes like this. Hoever, I could not refuse the invitation from Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad and I thank them for giving me the honour,’ further added the humble professor.
Professor Salauddin Ahmed is now passing his retirement. ‘I am above 90 years of age; this is the age when the greatest challenge is to remain alive; and writing something or conducting any research is a far cry. So I am just passing my days at home,’ informed Ahmed, who also said that he still enjoys sharing experiences with people.
Professor Salauddin Ahmed was always against all sorts of oppression. He was an active disciple of Mahatma Gandhi in 1946. In his long and eventful professional life, Ahmed taught at several institutes like Jagannath College, Rajshahi University, Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka University, and Chicago and Pennsylvania University in the USA. He received Ekushey Padak in 1991 and was declared as the national Professor in 2012.
