Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman was felicitated for receiving the Padma Bhushan award by the popular cultural organisation Surer Dhara at a programme at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in Dhanmondi on Thursday.
Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman was declared as one of the recipients of this year’s Padma Bhusan, the third highest civilian award in India, for his contributions in Bangla literature and education.
The congratulatory programme included presentations of songs and a discussion session, where professor Anisuzzaman and his wife Siddika Zaman, chief of Surer Dhara Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya, minister of finance Abul Mal Abdul Muhit, noted poet Syed Shamsul Haque, eminent artist Qayyum Chowdhury, human rights activist Sultana Kamal, editor of Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman, former foreign secretary Faruk Chowdhury, director general of Bangla Academy Samsuzzaman Khan, deputy high commissioner of the Embassy of India in Bangladesh Sandip Chakraborty, and among others were present. Besides, editor of Kolkata-based publication Desh Harsa Dutta greeted Anisuzzaman over phone at the programme.
In his speech, Professor Anisuzzaman shared his childhood memories saying that he was an ordinary student in school but he developed himself later on. The professor also shared his gratefulness towards his parents, teachers, the people of the country and especially to his wife for what he has become today.
The other speakers at the programme observed that the whole Bengali nation is proud of Anisuzzaman’s achievement. They also shared that the processor has always been committed towards his country, the people and his responsibilities as a result he is respected and loved by all.
After the discussion session, the artistes of Surer Dhara presented few Tagore songs including Anondoloke Mangal Aloke, Alo Amar Alo, Tomar Anando Oi Elo Elo Go, Aji Shuvo Diney Pitar-o Bhoboney at the programme. The touching lyrics and beautiful composition of the songs moved the audience while performed at the soulful presentation by the singers.
In his eventful career, professor Anisuzzaman had been awarded the Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Award, Ananda Purashkar for his work in the field of Bengali literature. In 2011, he received Pandit Iswarchandra Vidyasagar Gold Plaque from the Asiatic Society of Kolkata, Honorary D.Lit at Rabindra Bharati University in Calcutta, Sarojini Basu Medal, University of Calcutta and others.
