Bangladesh on Sunday received United Nations awards in recognition of its notable and outstanding progress in fighting hunger and eradicating poverty through ensuring its food security. UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recognised Bangladesh at a special event during its 38th session conference in Rome, according to a message received here.A total of 38 countries, including Bangladesh, were honoured with the ‘special recognition’ for their outstanding progress in fighting hunger and poverty.
Besides, Bangladesh received the ‘Diploma Award’ for its achievement in the UN Millennium Development Goal (MDG-1) by the end of 2012. A total of 20 countries received the Diploma Award.
FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva handed over the awards to Bangladesh Food Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque.
Ministers and top government officials from 194 countries were present at the event.
