Popular Dhallywood actress Purnima has won the national film award as best actress, for her performance in the movie ‘Ora Amake Bhalo Hote Dilo Na’, directed by Kazi
Hayat. This is the first ever national recognition for Purnima as a mainstream movie actress.
In the movie, Purnima presents a brilliant performance as the ‘heroine’, who is a victim of social turmoil. ‘It was not any typical Dhallywood “heroine” image, of
appearing only in romantic scenes with the hero. In fact, this was a huge opportunity to prove my acting skills in the movie. And I tried my level best to fulfill the
demand of the director,’ Purnima said.
‘The national award will boost my acting career. And I’ll concentrate more on performing in good movies, which the industry demands at present to overcome the slammed
trade market,’ said Purnima, from the shooting spot of her next movie titled ‘Dhakar King’ at Cox’s Bazar.
People involved in the film industry concerned also believe that the award will be a real encouraging for other talented actresses, whose careers at present are not as
vibrant as the initial stage of Purnima’s career. Purnima made her debut in Zakir Hossain’s movie ‘E Jibon Tomar Amar’ in 1997. Her most popular film released to date
is ‘Moner Majhe Tumi’. ‘Khomotar Gorom’, ‘Megher Pore Megh’, ‘Shasti, Shubha’, ‘Hridoyer Katha’ are the other popular films featuring Purnima.
But, these days Purnima is not getting many film offers. Last year only two movies were released acted by Purnima. ‘Actually, directors and producers select artistes.
If they depend on only one pair, considering the profit of their movie business, we have to wait for good offers,’ she said.
However, Purnima claims that she wants to be known only as a film actress. ‘The film industry is a different world. It is grand and gorgeous and of course more
attractive than any other media,’ she claimed.
She hoped she would be able attract viewers by acting in quality movies in the future.
