Popular theatre troupe Aranyak Natya Dal staged its latest production Putul Kathon at the Studio Theatre Hall of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday.
Putul Kathon, written by Mishu Milon and directed by Abu Hashim Masuduzzaman, depicts the hideous sides of religious fundamentalism through the story of a puppeteer who struggles for livelihood by conducting puppet shows; however, some religious extremists intervene stating that puppet show is an act against Islam. The poor, helpless puppeteers get bound to shun their profession which has been their only means of livelihood.
The play is the 47th production of the troupe, which was staged as a street theatre production at the Shaheed Minar premises on its observance programme on May 1.
On Monday, the play was premiered as a full-fledged theatre production.
Aranyak artistes Sujat Shimul, Manir Zaman, Rubly Chowdhury, Sheikh Milonperformed in the play among others.
