People in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country rushed out of their home panicked at an earthquake which could be felt about 7:53pm on Friday.
The earthquake was felt in Dhaka, Sylhet, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Bogra, Jaipurhat, Netrakona, Sherpur, Bandarban, Feni, Bhola other parts of the country, said New Age correspondents.
The correspondents reported that the panicked people rushed down on the roads and open spaces. No damage or casualty was reported.
The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted Indian states of Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram, reported the US Geological Survey.
The quake originated about 7:53pm somewhere in the India-Myanmar border. The epicentre was at 88km deep under the earth, 445km east-north-east off Dhaka, 85km off Imphal, the capital of Manipur.
Meteorologist Sadequl Alam of the Met Office in Dhaka said the four observatories in Bangladesh read the magnitude at 4.6 on the scale.
The New Age correspondent in Barisal said
Monibur Rahman, a lecturer in electrical engineering at Patuakhali University of Science and Technology and in charge of the university’s seismographic centre, according to New Age correspondent in Barisal, said the centre had recorded the earthquake to measure 3.5 on the scale for 36 to 40 seconds.
