Bangladesh Railway will add about 100 extra coaches to its inter-city and main train services for safe and smooth transportation of homebound passengers during the holy Eid- ul-Fitr.
BR Director General (DG) M Belayet Hossain told BSS that the authorities would add one to three coaches to every inter-city, mail and express train depending on the passenger demand.
He said repairing and renovation of necessary coaches are being carried out in Pahartali and Syedpur workshops and other depots.
Besides, the BR has taken a number of steps to ensure smooth journey of the passengers during the Eid.
The DG said steps have been taken to ensure fair dealings of advance tickets. Law enforcers would be deployed to stop black marketing of railway tickets.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion, police, railway police and railway security force would be deployed at some important stations during the selling of advance tickets. The BR officials would also monitor the ticket selling.
The BR will start selling advance ticket from August 31 and continue till September 4. One person would be able to buy the highest four tickets.
Besides, the ongoing programme of selling tickets of inter-city trains over mobile phones would be continuing.
BR Joint DG (operation) M Shajahan said, besides checking black marketing of tickets, members of law enforcement agencies would take actions against pickpockets and various types of robbers.
He said the additional law enforcers would be deployed in Kamalapur, Cantonment, Dhaka airport, Joydebpur, Chittagong, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna and other big stations. Besides, there would be CCTV cameras to ensure security of the passengers.
Senior officials would be on duty in those stations to take decisions during any necessity.
M Shajahan said security personnel would be deployed in all trains to preserve seats for the passengers between Joydebpur and Dhaka station.
BR sources said necessary steps would be taken to avoid subversive activities in running trains, stations and on railway lines.
Besides, the authorities decided to start running special trains on different routes three to four days before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
One additional pair of trains would ply on Dhaka-Dewanganj- Dhaka route, two pairs of trains on Chittagong-Chandpur-Chittagong route and one pair of trains on Parbatripur-Dhaka-Parbatipur route.
There will be no weekly holiday for inter-city trains from September 5 to the day before Eid and for seven days from the second day of Eid.
