Rain ended hosts Bangladesh’s chance of qualifying for the semi-final of the eighth Asia Cup as their match against the UAE was washed out in Sylhet on Tuesday.
The wash-out meant Thailand moved to the semi-final for the first time in history with six points collected from as many matches earlier in the competition.
Bangladesh, who came into the game with four points and a better run rate than Thailand, would have progressed if they had beaten the UAE, but persistent rain in Sylhet ensured the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Thailand will now face India in the semi-final on Thursday, while Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in the other semi-final on the same day.
Pakistan wrapped up the dress rehearsal of their semi-final match against Sri Lanka by beating the side by five wickets in the final match of the league phase.
Omaima Sohail claimed 5-13 to record the best bowling figure for Pakistan in Women’s Twenty20 international history as they bowled out Sri Lanka for 112 runs in 18.5 overs.
Skipper Chamari Athapaththu made the highest 41 runs for Sri Lanka.
Pakistan were in trouble, losing their first four wickets for 51 runs before Nida Rashid and Aliya Riaz shared 45 runs for the fifth wicket to put them in control.
Nida was unbeaten on 26 while Aliya added 20, as Pakistan reached 113 in 18.5 overs.
The final will take place on October 15.
