Rain ruined the Caribbean Premier League match between Barbados Tridents and Jamaica Tallawahs at the Kensington Oval on Monday, denying Bangladesh all-rounder Sakib al Hasan an opportunity to cherish a special Twenty20 match in his career. It was Sakib’s 200 career Twenty20 match, but the Bangladeshi talisman could not get into action as only 10 overs of play was possible before rain washed out the game.
Sakib, who had a modest tournament so far with two wickets and 32 runs in three matches, was eagerly waiting to show his skills in the match, which made him the first Bangladeshi to play 200 Twenty20 matches.
Sakib leads the other Bangladeshi players by a long distance in this regard with Tamim Iqbal way behind in second position with 119 matches.
Apart from the duo, only three other Bangladeshis — Mahmudullah (113 matches), Mushfiqur Rahim (112 matches) and Mashrafee bin Murtaza (105 matches) — played more than 100 Twenty20 matches in their career.
Sakib traded his skills for at least 15 different teams, which included 54 Twenty20 internationals for Bangladesh national team.
He played the remaining matches for Adelaide Strikers, Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, Barbados Tridents, Dhaka Gladiators, Jamaica Tallawahs, Karachi Kings, Khulna Division, Khulna Royal Bengals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Leicestershire, Melbourne Renegades, Prime Bank Cricket Club, Rangpur Riders and Worcestershire.
In his 200 Twenty20 matches Sakib scored 3,165 runs with best 86 that came against Dhaka Gladiators while playing for Khulna Royal Bengals in the 1st edition of the Bangladesh Premier League in 2012.
Shakib bagged 232 wickets with best 6/6 which came against Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel in the 1st season of CPL while playing for Barbados Tridents.
West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo played highest 317 Twenty20 matches in career. A total of 40 cricketers have now played 200 or more Twenty20 matches.
