Rain spoiled most of the opening day’s play of the third round of the National Cricket League that began in four separate venues on Friday.
Not a single ball was bowled in at least two venues on the opening day while matches held partially in two other venues. Dhaka were 132-4 against defending champions Khulna in Chittagong at stumps with only 39 overs of play possible.
At the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, only 41.1 overs of play were possible with Rajshahi making 114-4 against Dhaka Metro.
The opening day’s play in matches between Barisal v Rangpur and Sylhet v Chittagong respectively in Rajshahi and Bogra was completely washed out.
In Chittagong, winning the toss and batting first, Dhaka lost their opener Abdul Majid for a duck and at one stage they were 71-4 with pacer Al-Amin Hossain and spinner Mahadi Hasan grabbing two wickets each for Khulna.
A 61-run fifth wicket partnership between Shuvagata Hom and Taiabur Rahman helped Dhaka recover before the first day’s play was called off.
At stumps, Shuvagata remained not out on 41 off 67 balls while Taiabur was unbeaten on 25.
In Khulna, the match between Rajshahi and Metro also started an hour late due to wet outfield.
Put into bat by Metro, Rajshahi were 12-2 with pacer Dollar Mahmud taking both the wickets.
Opener Mizanur Rahman scored a well made fifty, 56 off 90 balls including 10 fours, and added 63 runs with Junaed Siddique for the third wicket before he became the third victim of Dollar.
At stumps, Junaed was batting on 29 not out while Farhad Reza was unbeaten on 7.
