Rajshahi Division grabbed the inaugural cricket gold of the eighth Bangladesh Games after overpowering Rangpur Division by five wickets in the final at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra on Saturday.
The 20-over knockout cricket competition was introduced for the very first time in the Bangladesh Games and Rajshahi lifted the title after overcoming the challenge posed by Rangpur.
Rangpur posted 150-7 on the board in their stipulated 20 overs after winning the toss and batting first. Alauddin Babu scored 38 runs from 21 balls while former national all-rounder Sohrawardi Shuvo remained unbeaten on 28 from 27 deliveries.
Delwar Hossain (3-31) and Muktar Ali (3-26) ensured Rajshahi did not have to chase a big total.
In pursuit of Rangpur’s target, Rajshahi completed their chase in 19 overs, finishing on 154-5 with an over to spare.
Sabbir Rahman was the highest scorer for Rajshahi with 64 from 46 balls that featured three fours and as many as five sixes. Sabbir was adjudged as the man-of-the-match for his contribution, while he was ably supported by Farhad Hossain (28 off 26 balls).
