Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) yesterday in a drive demolished illegal structures in car-parking spaces of five buildings at the city’s Rokeya Sarani.
Rokon-ud-Doula, executive magistrate of Rajuk, yesterday morning conducted the drive with around 30 day labourers, a bulldozer, two platoons of police and some officials of Rajuk. The drive continued until 4:00pm.
Rokon said they freed the car parks of the buildings including FR Tower and Nim Tower by knocking down all structures used for other purposes. The structures were built in violation of the plans approved by Rajuk.
Even the portions of Limu show room, Hatil Furniture and Probal community center, which fell into the car park areas, were removed, the Rajuk official said.
Gias Uddin, owner of one of the buildings, said most of the buildings at Rokeya Sarani used their car parks for other purposes.
Rajuk earlier also took several initiatives to make car parks of other buildings in the area available for parking vehicles, but the structures removed in the drives were rebuilt in no time.
