Demolishing Jamuna Future Park portion
Rajuk to seek BUET help
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha will seek technical help from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in demolishing the unauthorised four top floors of the Jamuna Future Park Shopping Complex, Rajuk officials said.
As the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order for demolition of the unauthorised four top floors of the Jamuna Future Park by dismissing the appeal of the Jamuna Future Park authorities, Rajuk is making preparations to resume demolition, the officials said.
Rajuk officials said the agency was likely to resume its drive to demolish the unauthorised portion of the Jamuna Future Park on February 18.
‘We will soon resume the drive to dismantle the unauthorised portion of the Jamuna Future Park as we have got the Supreme Court order in our favour. And we are making our preparations,’ Rajuk’s director of development control Sheikh Abdul Mannan told New Age on Sunday.
‘As it is a heavy structure, we need to be careful about demolishing the structure so that no harm is caused to the authorised portion of the building. This is why we are thinking about to seeking technical assistance of BUET to pull down the four top floors of the complex,’ Abdul Mannan said.
‘The complex is built with 5000PSI concrete. So, modern technology is needed to dismantle the unauthorised portion,’ he said.
The Rajuk chairman, Nurul Huda, said the agency would resume the drive soon. ‘Rajuk people have now been engaged in other businesses. We will now make fresh schedule for the drive.’
‘We also need to make further preparations for the job as the Jamuna Future Park is a heavy structure,’ he said.
Rajuk on February 4 started pulling down the unapproved four top floors of the 10-storey complex, an under-construction shopping mall beside Pragati Sarani.
The High Court on February 3 rejected a writ petition challenging a Rajuk notice that asked the Jamuna Future Park authorities to pull down the unauthorised floors.
The Jamuna Group, meanwhile, filed an application with an Appellate Division chamber judge the day Rajuk started its demolition drive.
Rajuk earlier served its third and final notice on January 17 to the Jamuna Future Park authorities to dismantle storeys beyond the sixth floor built in violation of the approved design and plan.
About one hundred workers, led by Rajuk magistrate Rokanuddoula, were engaged in the demolition work on February 4.
Rajuk on January 13 served a notice to the authorities of the Jamuna Builders Ltd asking them to demolish the unauthorised floors in seven days.
The Jamuna Builders, in response, filed a writ petition with the High Court on January 17 challenging the legality of the notice.
