Ramblers clinched the title of the AB Bank-CityCell WECCA Beach Cricket beating Cricketeers by three wickets in the final on the concluding of the three-day fun cricket in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
Former national skipper Naimur Rahman Durjoy scored a blazing 35 off only eight balls that included five sixes to take the game away from the hands of Cricketers.
Ramblers played as three former skippers – Akram Khan and Faruque Ahmed and Durjoy – in the tournament.
Opting to bat first, Cricketeers scored a formidable 76 runs for the loss of three wickets with Ehsanul Haque Sheezan making highest 30 and skipper Azam Iqbal chipping in with 18. Wicketkeeper Faruque took two brilliant catches which helped Ramblers restrict their opponents to a reachable total. Apart from Durjoy, extras contributed second highest 21 runs before Debabrata Paul hit a massive six in the first ball he faced to finish off the game. WECCA declared a lifetime achievement award for three former cricket personalities – leg-spinner Ramchand Goala , coach Altaf Hossain and umpire SA Ahad Jhunu – for their contribution to country’s cricket. Each of them will be awarded a cheque for Tk 1,00,000 and a crest.
BCB vice-president Ahmad Sazzadul Alam Bobby, CityCell CEO David Lee and AB Bank’s director Fahimul Haque were present in the final and later distributed prizes among the winners.
