The death toll from the disastrous Rana Plaza collapse climbed to 1111 with the recovery of 34 more bodies on Saturday. The 34 bodies were pulled out of the ruins from 6am to 6pm today (Saturday), said sources at the Army Control Room set up at Mansur Market in Savar bus stand area. The bodies recovered
on Saturday were mostly decomposed beyond recognition.Of the recovered corpses, 809 have been handed over to the families so far while 64 were kept on Savar Adhar Chandra Model High School premises.
Some 156 unidentified bodies have been buried at Jurain Graveyard in the capital.
A total of 2,438 people have been rescued alive so far from the wreckage of the commercial complex.
Of them, nine succumbed to their injuries at different hospitals.
Meanwhile, the 2nd phase of the rescue operation using heavy equipment entered the 12th consecutive day today (Saturday).
Rescue works are being done cautiously so that bodies in the wreckage can be retrieved undistorted or with the hope that anybody like Reshma might be found alive.
The eight-storey building came down crashing on April 24.

Leader of the rescue operation General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Bangladesh Army’s 9th Infantry Division Major General Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardy at a press conference on May 1 claimed that only 149 persons went missing. But, over the past 10 days 688 bodies had been pulled out from the wreckage.
The workers, who had survived the collapse, claimed that over 5,500 workers used to work at various outlets.
The rescue operation is continuing in the full swing.
