A Dhaka Court on Tuesday placed the father of Sohel Rana, owner of nine storied collapsed Rana Plaza on a four days’ fresh remand in connection with the
case filed against him for the collapse incident.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Wasim Sheikh passed the order with five days’ fresh remand for the case filed by the police. DB Inspector and also investigation officer (IO) of the case Meer Shahin Shah Pervez produced the accused before the court with a five days remand prayer.
In the remand prayer IO said, that the accused needs to be on fresh police remand to find out the other accused involved with ignoring the order of administration and forcing the workers to go to the work place’.
Earlier on April 30, the same court remanded Khalek in police custody for seven days in the case filed by the police and for six days in another case filed by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha(RAJUK) for the collapse of the nine -story building at Savar.
Defense counsel, Barrister S K Abu Musa Mohammad Arif appealed before the court for signing some Vokalatnama (Power) mentioning that he will file Writ Petition before the High Court Division.
Court allowed signing Vokalatnama since no lawyer pleaded for the accused.
Earlier on April 29, the court also remanded Rana for fifteen days and Anisur Rahman, chairman of Ether Tex Limited, one of the five garments factories housed at Rana Plaza, for 12 days for interrogation in the same cases.
On April 29, the Detective Branch of Police arrested Khalek from Aarong Lane at Maghbazar, in the afternoon, while he was waiting to go to Kamlapur Railway Station and leave Dhaka.
Sohel Rana’s father Abdul Khalek Bepary alias Kulu Khalek, 65, was alleged to have had involvement with the collapse of Rana Plaza, the nine-storey building that housed five garments factories at Savar in the capital’s outskirts, an incident which killed around 1127 people and injured more than 2,000.
On April 25, Sub-Inspector Wali Ashraf Khan of Savar police station filed a case against Rana, his father Abdul Khalek and the owners of the garments factories for the loss of lives and damage from the building collapse.
Rajuk’s authorised officer Helal Uddin filed another case against Rana for breaching the Building Construction Act and building code.
