Rupa Aktar, 16, succumbed to wounds incurred while being gang-raped in Faridpur Sadar Hospital on Monday morning.
When the news of Rupa’s death spread, one Mamun and his henchmen went to the hospital and warned her family members not to file any case.
As a consequence her parents are afraid of filing a complaint or arranging an autopsy of the dead body.
Joygun Begum, mother of Rupa, told reporters that Mamun and his henchmen were responsible for the death of her daughter as they sexually abused her, which ultimately led her death.
Rupa, daughter of Wahed Mia of Salipur in Char Bhadrashan upazila, was a student of Class IX in Char Hajiganj High School.
She was admitted to the hospital on October 29 in a critical condition.
She told reporters and representatives of human rights groups that she was gang-raped by Mamun and his mates in the residence of one of them at Hajiganj in the same upazila.
Nasir Uddin Ahmed, brother-in-law of Rupa, told New Age that they were trying to file a case with the court as the police of Char Bhadrashan thana refused to lodge their case.
Ahsanul Haque Mamun, 36, son of Aziz Master, president of the upazila unit of Awami League, rejected the allegations of rape against him.
Faridpur’s superintendent, Awlad Ali Fakir, told New Age that he had ordered the additional SP to visit Faridpur Sadar Hospital and meet Rupa’s family before taking necessary action.
