Two more people, including a student, were killed as vehicles hit them in separate accident in the Dhaka city’s Jatrabari and Farmgate.
At Farmgate, Mujibul Arefin Basunia, a Dhaka International University student, was killed as bus hit him in front of the Ananda Cinema Hall at the bus-
bay at about 1:30pm.
Arefin, 20, of Rangpur, was returning home after attending his first-year
classes.
A witness, Wahid Ashraf, also victim’s classmate, said the bus hit him while he was trying to get into another bus at Farmgate, leaving him critically injured at about 1:30.
Arefin was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but the duty doctor declared him dead at about 2:30pm.
The family received the body without post-mortem examination, the hospital sources said.
Ashraf said Arefin was returning from the university to his house in Mohammadpur Town Hall area.
The Tejgaon police picked the drive, Bashir Farazi, 30, and seized the bus.
No case was filed till 6:00pm, the police said.
As the news reached the campus, the agitate students of the university gathered on Green Road and the university authorities suspended all classes for the day to avert any unwarranted situation.
At Jatrabari, unidentified vehicle run over a rickshaw puller, Jahidul Islam, 30, of Purba Muradpur of the area at about 7:40pm, hospital sources said.
Critically injured, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors dleared his death.
Road accidents claimed 2,646 lives in 2010, the government said on Monday.
