Rehabilitation will be the key for pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman after his scheduled shoulder operation at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London on August 11, said Bangladesh Cricket Board officials.
Shoulder specialist Andrew Wallace, who earlier had successfully operated Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, will conduct the operation to help Mustafiz find a permanent solution of his shoulder problem.
Earlier, Mustafiz had taken advice from two shoulder surgeons in England –Lennard Funk and Tony Kocchar – to assess his condition and his reports were also sent to Australia’s David Hoye for his observation.
Mustafiz aggravated his injury during his short stint with Sussex at the NatWest Twenty20 Blast, where he played only two games before being ruled out due to injury.
Mustafiz’s second arthrogram report reconfirmed a grade-2 tear in his bowling shoulder.
‘I think rehabilitation will be the key after the surgery,’ BCB head physician Debashish Chowdhury told reporters on Saturday.
‘He will be observed intensively for five to six days before his rehabilitation process begins under the supervision of physio and a trainer.
‘Normally it takes five months,’ he said.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan might also be present during that time to give confidence to the youngster.
‘There is a possibility that he [Nazmul Hasan] also remains present during the operation,’ BCB director Ismail Haider Mallick told New Age on Saturday.
