The United States has called upon the political leadership in Bangladesh to ensure law and order and refrain from supporting violence, particularly against minority communities. Washington also urged the Bangladesh leadership to avoid inflaming rhetoric and intimidation. “We certainly are disappointed by recent incidents of violence. We condemn the violence in the strongest terms that continues to mark the prevailing political impasse,” Jen Psaki, spokesperson of the US State Department, told a regular briefing in Washington on Friday when asked regarding the US stance on the alleged violence against the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh.
“Violence is not an acceptable element of the political process. We call on all to stop committing further violence,” she said.
“And Bangladesh’s political leadership and those who aspire to lead must do everything in their power to ensure law and order, and refrain from supporting violence – especially against minority communities, and avoid inflaming rhetoric, and intimidation.
So, that is where we stand,” she added.
