BNP senior vice chairman and eldest son of opposition leader Khaleda Zia Tarique Rahman has observed that restoring the caretaker government to ensure free and fair election should get more priority to BNP leader and activists than taking preparation for general election. Addressing an Iftar party organised at a hotel in central London, Tarique presented a road-map on how to take the country towards prosperity in the next five years.
In his nearly hour-long speech, Tarique dealt with education, agriculture, industry, tourism, traffic congestion, urbanisation, environment and information technology.
Tarique said that through this initiative the number of employed people can be increased to 80 million from the existing 50 million and number of people living below the poverty line can be reduced to 10 per cent from 31 per cent.
This is his second public speech in London since his departure from the country in 2008 for treatment.
The iftar party was organised by the UK unit of BNP and attended by representatives from different countries of Europe.
Terming agriculture sector the lifeblood of economy, Tarique stressed the need for restructuring the supply chain for agro-products. He also emphasised on ensuring profit for the farmers. He said that an independent price commission for agriculture products should be set up.
He also emphasised on overhauling the traditional education system underlining the need for ensuring quality as well as pro-employment education and redesigning the examination system under which evaluation of the answer sheets should be more perfect.
On the growth of the RMG sector he said that time has come to rethink the issue of labour rights. He pointed out through market and product diversification, exports from RMG exports can be enhanced to 45 billion US dollar. He said through promoting the tourism industry the number of tourists can be raised by half m a million which would boost the country’s economy.
President of UK unit of BNP Shaesta Chowdhury chaired the function.
