Leading Tagore singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya was honoured by City Bank NA at a musical programme titled `Gaane Gaane Gunijon Songbordhona` for her outstanding contribution in popularising Tagore songs on Friday at the Radisson Blue Water Garden Hotel in the capital.
Arranging the musical programme the Bank also celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
Eminent singer Ferdousi Rahman as the special guest of the programme and senior officials of the bank honoured the celebrated singer by handing over an award and a huge portrait of Bonnya, which the delighted singer unveiled on stage.
Trained under the maestros such as Kanika Banerjee, Nilima Sen, Ashesh Bandopadhyay and Santideb Ghosh at the Visva Bharati University, Bonnya has enriched the arena of Tagore song practice in the country with her clean rendition, impeccable accent and her willingness to tackle even the most difficult and least popular songs. She has travelled extensively around the world to take part in concerts and is credited with numerous albums in many countries, most notably in Bangladesh and India. She also opened Shurer dhara, a school for learning music in Dhaka. She is also a teacher of the department of music at the University of Dhaka.
In her speech Rezwana Chowdhury thanked everyone and hoped to continue her work to spread the message of Tagore songs.
Following the formalities Bonnya along with distinguished Tagore singer Saadi Mohammad enthralled the audiences with an outstanding performance of some timeless songs.
The event began with a wonderful duet performance of the Tagore song Aguner poroshmoni.
Saadi Mohammad moved the audience with his soulful presentation of Tagore songs Tumi kamon kore gaan koro he guni.
Bonnya with her mesmerising voice presented Tomake gaan shonabo, Badol holo shara baje biday er shur and some other Tagore songs.
The programme wrapped up with another duet. Their presentation of evergreen Tagore song Purano shei diner katha filled the hearts of the listeners with delight.
Since 2004 Citi Bank NA has honored leading artistes such as Nilufar Yasmin, Farida Parveen, Feroza Begum, Sanjida Khatum, Shohrab Hossain, Ferdousin Rahman and Sabina Yasmin for their contribution to Bangla music and culture.
