Richarlison scored twice after halftime to lead Brazil to a well-deserved 2-0 win over Serbia at the Lusail Stadium on Thursday. It was the first game of the 2022 World Cup for both teams.
Before halftime, Brazil had trouble making plays and didn’t manage to threaten Serbia. This was because Serbia defended well and didn’t give the Selecao many spaces to exploit.
But Tite’s team came out strong after the break. Raphinha tried to beat Vanja Milinkovic-Savic right away, but he was stopped by Milinkovic-Savic.
At the hour mark, Alex Sandro took a shot from outside the box, but it hit the post. One minute later, Milinkovic-Savic stopped Vinicius’s shot.
Brazil finally broke the tie.
In the 62nd minute, Richarlison scored the first goal after Vinicius’s shot hit the post. This was the first time Brazil was able to break the tie.
The Real Madrid winger then set up the Tottenham forward, who scored a great goal with a bicycle kick with 17 minutes left to play.
Brazil could have scored more goals, but Casemiro hit the crossbar, and Milinkovic-Savic stopped Fred.
With this win, Brazil are now tied for first place in Group G with Switzerland. Earlier on Thursday, Switzerland beat Cameroon by a score of 1-0.
